About & Methodology
What Covered Route is, how we research every guide, and what we deliberately don't do.
What we are
Covered Route publishes independent, state-by-state research on car insurance costs and coverage requirements. We started the site because most car insurance content online is written by insurance agencies to sell policies, or by lead-generation sites designed to collect your contact details and sell them to agents. We do neither.
What we are not
Covered Route is not a licensed insurance agency, broker, or carrier. We do not sell insurance policies, and we do not sell your contact information to anyone. Nothing on this site is a quote, an offer of insurance, or personalized financial advice.
How we research a guide
Each state and driver-profile guide is built the same way:
- Minimum coverage requirements are pulled directly from that state's department of insurance or equivalent regulator.
- Rate estimates are compiled from published, named third-party sources — rate-comparison publishers, industry associations, and insurer rate filings where available — never invented.
- Where sources disagree, as they often do, we show the range rather than picking one number and presenting it as exact.
- Every source is listed at the bottom of the guide with the date we referenced it, so you can check it yourself.
- Guides are revisited periodically; when a figure is updated, the "last updated" date on the page changes.
Why rates vary from what you see quoted
Actual insurance premiums depend on dozens of factors specific to you: your exact ZIP code, driving record, credit-based insurance score in states that allow it, the vehicle you drive, and the insurer's own underwriting model. No published average will match your personal quote exactly. Our guides are built to explain the range and what drives it, not to predict your exact premium.
Corrections
If you find a figure that's out of date or a source that's been superseded, tell us via the contact page and we'll review it.
